Splendid Day in Budapest
Full day private tour
In a nutshell, this tour is Budapest with an expert guide-the objectives are to visit the main sights, discover hidden gems, and to gain an understanding of the culture and history of Hungary. In the 8 hours of this tour, you can choose to sit in a car or travel on public transportation, but what is certain is that you will walk along the streets of Budapest, stand in local pubs and eat an authentic Hungarian meal!
Your guide will start by taking you to the Buda side, crossing the Danube to enjoy a beautiful view from the Fisherman’s Bastion. You’ll walk down the old streets of the Castle District, visit the architecturally unique Matthias Church and be able to peek into tiny courtyards in this area whose history dates back to the early middle ages. You’ll take a ride on one of Europe’s oldest funiculars, from the castle down to the river bank, and cross the bridge to the Pest side- the busy downtown area of Budapest. Whilst discussing WWII and the Communist regime and passing historically important statues in Liberty Square, you will end up at the Hungarian Parliament building and have the chance to admire its timeless beauty. You will also visit the Shoes on the Danube, a famous and moving memorial of the Holocaust in Hungary.
You’ll also enjoy a traditional meal in a hip market and taste Gulyás soup (a traditional Hungarian stew prepared with beef, paprika and vegetables), as well as dessert, all prepared by a talented young chef. You will also learn about the colourful cuisine of the country, which is rooted in Hungary’s 1000-year old history.
After your break you will continue by foot and visit St.Stephen’s Basilica to admire the most important architectural relic of Hungarian Catholicism, pass by Andrassy Avenue with its elegant stores, and take the 120 year-old underground to Heroes’ Square which houses statues of important Hungarian historical figures. You’ll also visit the City Park, home to a small replica of a famous Transylvanian castle and one of Europe’s greatest thermal baths, just opposite the zoo and the circus.
Your guide will also take you to the Jewish district, where most of the city’s appreciable synagogues, arcades, ruin bars, specialty cafés and design stores are located. Strolling through the narrow streets and visiting some of the places where locals meet, you will hopefully get a feeling of the vibe of the area.
The Great Market on the Danube bank is one of the main highlights of the city and provides a great opportunity to buy some souvenirs, too. You will certainly not leave without getting the view from the Gellért Hill. In this full day Budapest trip you will absolutely fall in love with Budapest!
